Online Self-Paced Training

The Tribal Climate Health Project hosted a live, national webinar series on Tribal Climate and Health Adaptation from August – December 2019. These webinars were recorded in full and provided below so others may benefit from the training at their own self-paced schedule.

Some of the most tragic impacts of climate change are projected to come in the form of illness, injury, and death, which will disproportionately impact the most vulnerable members of a community. A comprehensive tribal climate change adaptation plan can help a Native American tribal community better understand, prepare for, and protect against such impacts. However, many adaptation plans place greater emphasis on environmental, infrastructural, or other issues and do not adequately analyze human health concerns. This may be because there can be an overwhelming amount of potential human health impacts and limited resources to obtain, understand, or analyze this information.

This 10-series training provides steps, tools, templates, case studies, and other resources that seek to streamline the adaptation planning process and make it easier for tribal-serving health and environmental professionals to understand and address human health exposures and impacts within tribal communities. This training summarizes the latest data and literature on the exposures and impacts of climate change that may impact the health of tribal community members. It also describes how to identify and select appropriate strategies to address these exposures and impacts.

2025 Tribal Climate and Health Adaptation Summit

Realities of Tribal Climate Disaster Resilience

Fall 2025

Guided by the theme “Realities of Tribal Climate Disaster Resilience,” the Summit focused on arming Tribal-serving professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to prepare for and act during climate change-related emergencies – such as extreme temperatures, wildfires, and storms – that may affect the Tribes they serve.

Throughout this one-day training, Tribal-serving professionals working at the intersection of climate change, health, and community wellbeing participated in interactive instruction and peer-to-peer learning activities that built knowledge and resilience in the face of climate emergencies and disasters. Organizers, guest speakers, and attendees were invited to share recent findings, successful practices, and resources that are increasing Tribal resilience to a variety of climate exposures throughout the US. The summit provided opportunities for attendees to reflect individually and connect with each other. The summit also recognized Tribes for significant progress in championing climate and health adaptation.
